Grange U-11 beat Borders by 24 runs Borders won the toss and elected to field. Jack Mullins and Jamie Crawley got the innings off to a good start against some fast and accurate Borders bowling. With Jack and Jamie having added 21 from their 3 overs, James Stuart and Patrick Longmate then contributed 26 - with no dismissals, the highest partnership of the innings. The Borders bowling continued to be difficult to get away but the final two Grange pairs did well to add a further 31 to push the total up to 278. Grange knew they had a tough match on their hands and responded with disciplined bowling and alert fielding. James Stewart, Patrick Longmate and Jack Blain all bowled accurately to restrict the first Borders pair to just 12 runs including one dismissal. Patrick Ritchie, Max Hancock and Jack Mullins then turned the screw further as the second Borders pair added only a net 4 to the score. So at the half way stage, Borders needed a further 63 to win. Their third pair batted well to reduce the target to 36 but the final pair got off to the worst possible start with a run out off the first ball courtesy of a direct hit by Jack Mullins. Game hitting and some cheeky running by Borders reduced the deficit to 16 until a great catch by Patrick Longmate, left Borders needing an improbable 22 off the last over. That was made even more unlikely with them having to face Mikey 'I also like to bowl the last over' Hay-Smith. Mikey remained cool as a cucumber conceding just two runs before a last ball catch saw Borders finish 24 runs short. Another good win for the Grange with contributions from all the team. Grange have now won both of their U-11 group games. They now need to win their last group game against Penicuik to guarantee a place in the semi-finals. |
