Around 190 children from age 6 to 15 take part in our Junior Stags programme. We aim to make cricket enjoyable, ensure it is played in the right spirit and to provide an environment where young people have the opportunity to develop their potential.
At Grange there is a strong focus on developing excellence. John Blain, our Head Coach/Director of Cricket, is an elite ECB Level 4 coach and will oversee all our coaching. He provides comprehensive pathways for our players to learn and progress at an appropriate rate from the earliest age - towards either high performance, or simply for the love of playing cricket. Our sessions are led by a carefully considered combination of qualified cricket coaches plus assistance from many willing parents, thus ensuring the highest standards of coaching and appropriate coach/player ratios.
We have four main age groups, namely, U10 ,U12, U14 and U16. The U10s all train on Sunday mornings and play in Kwik Cricket softball festivals throughout the season. The U12, U14 and U16 groups play in league matches on fixed days. The Scottish Cup competitions are are at U14 and U16 age levels. However, the ECB Cup competition (the English equivalent which Grange Juniors enter) retains the old age structure (so U13 and U15 age groups will play in this national knock out competition, as in previous years). The age group for your child for the 2019 season will be determined by their age on the 1st September 2018.
There are currently more than 30 Grange players in National and Area Academies and development squads. The Junior Stags have an excellent record in National Cup competitions and are looking forward to a strong year ahead. For the past nine years we have taken a team to the prestigious Shrewsbury Festival where the Club has competed strongly against English county sides. The Club will return to Shrewsbury in 2019.
